The Virtual Travel Agency, NMEC's agent for video conferencing, electronic and virtual field trips! Virtual Field Trip
Etiquette

Instructors

Teachers should be sure to contact the Virtual Field Trip Agent or Video Conference Coordinator at the remote site to be sure to have all supplies/materials for each video conference. Teacher and Coordinator should mutually agree on a topic and verify that material is adjusted to the age group attending.

Verify the time your video conference is scheduled. Double check time zone differences. (i.e. California is 3 hours earlier, etc) If you schedule the video conference, be sure to notify participants of the correct time and day. Send reminders.

Make sure the site hosting the virtual field trip or video conference can accommodate seating for your class or meeting size.

Large groups of students should have strategies for controlling and involving the whole group.

Instructor and Viewers

Restrict movement as much as possible. Movements show up as choppy and disruptive.

Viewers should remain quiet unless called upon. The microphones pick up every noise. This includes side conversations, rustling papers, moving chairs, etc. Your noise may cut out the audio. Remember you are always on camera.

Talk slowly and clearly in order to be understood. Wait for the on screen site to finish talking before replying.

Occasionally there are problems with the tape feed and it may be difficult or impossible to have the conference the original time or day. Alternate plans are advisable.
In other words, have a back up plan!
